By now you should know that social media is paramount when it comes to marketing your business. Unfortunately, it can be frustrating sometimes when you create the perfect post, schedule it at the perfect time, and then it publishes… and then nothing but the sound of you clicking the refresh button over and over.
Sound familiar? It’s disappointing to say the least!
Each social media platform has their own way of measuring how many people will see your content. Years ago, there were no rules and most of your followers would see all of your posts. Now the reach for your posts has begun to dwindle. Fast.
As organic and paid content become a priority for marketers looking to reach consumers. The top social media platforms are adding thousands of new members on a daily basis and this alone can make it extremely harder to compete for attention and space on everyone’s feeds.
Engagement is vital to your success on social media. The good news is, there is a lot more you could be doing to increase your engagement…
Truth is, the more engagement you get on your content, the more people will see your content. So if more people engage and see your content, more people will see your products or services, ultimately resulting in more people buying from you.
“The social networks track your behaviour and know you better than you probably know yourself”
We have put together a list of our 5 favourite Social Media Engagement Hacks, tips and strategies to boost your brands presence on social media:
Hack #1 – Be Consistent
You have heard this too many times before, but this is the most important factor for social media success. Remember, a lack of consistency kills your social reach. I’ve seen plenty of brands posting once a week for a month, then dropping to just once a month. You’re telling the audience you’re not active and the networks will notice, lowering your news feed presence.
You must post consistently to hack your way on the newsfeed, but to also expand your brands reach to new customers.
Hack #2 – Engage First
Our personal favourite, this hack is probably the most effective known to man.
The social networks track your behaviour and know you better than you probably know yourself. If your’e the typical “passive user” just scrolling through the news feeds and not engaging, then guess what happens when you finally post something?
Long Answer: Absolutely nothing!
Engagement is the answer to your dilemma. You need to be engaging with other people to show the platform you’re an “active user”, so that when you do post, it’ll be seen by more people.
Spend 15-30 minutes each day to engage with users before you post your content. The thoughtful comments, likes, and overall engagement will give platforms the notion that you are active and this will get you more engagement on your posts.
Hack #3 – Comment Bumping
You must understand that each piece of content you post on social media has a lifespan, a very brief lifespan.
When timed right, your comments and responses can double or even triple your organic reach and increase engagement on all of your posts.
Do not rush to reply to any comments. You have been warned.
Wait until the post lifespan is almost up, then go crazy with your comment replies adding value every time. This bumps your post back up in the news feed so more people can like and engage.
Try it out and you’ll be surprised how effective this hack can be (it’s FREE).
Hack #4 – Follow The Follower
This hack is excellent for growing your following; the concept is to attract followers back to you, but first you must identify the right type of followers to attract. Focus on industry influencers or brands that already have the followers you want to have access to.
By following users first, you are provoking curiosity amongst users who will go back to your profile where they can follow back and see all of the amazing content your brand has to offer them.
This is a perfect strategy to get targeted fans for your band, and the more followers you have, the more engagement you’ll have!
Hack #5 – Talk To Users, Not At Them!
If you take anything useful from this post, this hack is it!
The whole point of social media is to be social.
You must talk to people and with them (keyword being people). They might be fans or followers on social media but they are human. Humans want to be noticed, recognised, and appreciated.
When posting on social platforms, if you’re not opening the conversation for people, you’re killing your engagement levels.
As most consumers are “passive users”, you need to post with open-ended questions and make sure you leave them reason to comment, like, and share your posts.
All in all, there are many more hacks you can utilise to achieve social media engagement success, but harnessing these five hacks will most definitely improve your brands engagement rates. Check out our other posts on social media here.
